Explore Before Explain: A Practical and Fun Approach Towards NGSS
Use a simple yet powerful approach: Explore-Before-Explain to prepare you for the new science standards. We’ll explore ways to sequence instruction that promotes long-lasting understanding for your students. This course shows you how simple shifts in the way you arrange and combine activities will help students construct knowledge, while allowing you to prepare for the revised NGSS-based Colorado Science Standards and put them into practice.
NOTE: This is a repeat of last year's summer course with a few new additional ideas.
Upper Elementary
June 15 & 16, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Patrick Brown, PhD, is the Executive Director of STEM and Career Education for the Fort Zumwalt School District in O’Fallon, Missouri. He has a range of educational experiences and has taught elementary, middle and high school science classes as well as undergraduate and graduate courses for teachers. Dr. Brown has received awards for his methods course teaching such as the Lambda Chi Alpha Professor of the Year and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Education at the University of Missouri–Columbia. His area of research deals with strategies for enhancing science literacy and teacher professional development. He has several publications that appear as journal articles, book chapters, and books and he has given many presentations at the regional, national, and international level.
Cost: $200
Credit option: additional $50 (1.0 credits)

Children cannot be accommodated in Teachers Professional Development Programs; no exceptions. Participants who arrive with children will not be admitted to the program.
