The 2021 Southern Science Implementation Institute is a collaborative effort between the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the Colorado Science Education Network (CSEN), and the Colorado Association of Science Teachers (CAST) to support districts, schools, and teachers across the state in their transition to the new Colorado Standards for Science. We are partnering with surrounding districts to support this one-day learning experience.

At the implementation institutes, teachers and educators will deepen their understanding of the new science standards through interactive and engaging day-long virtual sessions led by expert facilitators. Participants can join one of three learning groups for the day, each one tailored to support different levels of experience with the standards. Participants can select from one of the following strands when registering:

  • Strand 1: Unpacking the CAS Science Standards - Using aligned tools and resources, we will unpack the revised science standards consider the shifts in instruction through an immersive learning experience. Great session for beginners!
  • Strand 2: Teaching in Three-Dimensions - For those who have completed an introduction to the standards, and who would like to deepen their experience applying the standards in their classroom practice. Led by National Science Teaching Association (NSTA)
  • Strand 3: Exploring 3D Classroom Assessment with CAS Science Standards - For those who have a deep understanding of the standards, and or teachers that lead professional learning communities in their schools or for their districts, this session will be a deep dive into aligned three-dimensional classroom assessment.

Registration is capped at 150 educators per institute. Participating educators will be eligible to receive up to 8 hours towards recertification, and have the opportunity to network with peers and gain resources to support their work. Educators will need to complete the survey and a learning reflection to receive credit.
