CAST Grants and Awards

Each year, CAST offers a variety of awards which recognize excellence in science education in the State of Colorado.  Descriptions, requirements and deadlines for each of the different awards may be found at the links listed below. 

Please consider nominating an outstanding science educator or feel free to nominate yourself!

The CAST Classroom Mini Grant provides the recipient with $200 for classroom materials.  This award is available to anyone who has been a CAST member for more than 1 year.                     

The Excellence in Teaching Award (CAST and AVS) provides the recipient with $500 and a plaque.  The CAST and AVS awards honors elementary, middle school, high school and college/informal educators.

The CAST Rising Star Award recognizes a teacher with one to three years of experience who has demonstrated a passion and aptitude for teaching science.  It provides the recipient with $250 and a certificate. The same criteria for Excellence in Science Teaching will be used for evaluation, but consideration will be given to the formative state of the nominee.

The CAST Pre-service Teacher Award provides the recipient with $250 and an award certificate. We also reimburse registration to the annual Colorado Science Conference. This award honors an outstanding science student teacher.

The CAST Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of science education in Colorado.  Recipients receive a plaque and are honored at the Colorado Science Conference.

The CAST Friend of Science Award recognizes individuals who have made contributions to science and/or science education through informal settings.  Recipients receive a plaque and are honored at the Colorado Science Conference.

The Rural Scholarship to attend Colorado Science Conference provides $100 to 5 rural CAST members.  These scholarships are intended to help defray the cost of attending the Colorado Science Conference each November.

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching


   The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)    are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-       12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching.
